Ash Wednesday Mass this year will be on
Wednesday 18th February 2026 at
9.00am in the Main church.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the 40-day season of preparation before Easter.
It marks the beginning of a journey of:
- repentance
- conversion
- prayer
- fasting
- almsgiving
Ash Wednesday reminds us that the Christian life is not just about celebration- it is also about returning to God with a sincere heart. The central sign of the day is the imposition of ashes on the forehead.
Ashes are an ancient symbol of :
- mourning
- humility
- repentance
- mortality
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday are traditionally made by burning the blessed palms from Palm Sunday of the previous year.
